AMSI funds and supports undergraduate students from around Australia to spend their summer holidays (December–February) working on supervised research projects. AMSI VRS is open to intending honours and masters students, and is a fantastic opportunity to broaden academic interests and experience.
AMSI Vacation Research Scholars undertake research, build a project, submit a blog, and present to their peers and supervisors at AMSIConnect, the exclusive student conference held in February.
“My summer research work led to me being employed as a casual research assistant and casual academic at the University of Newcastle”
Max Carter, University of Newcastle
“VRS was the first time I had tried research. It provided an opportunity to work through the process and answer a question in a low-stakes environment.”
Dr Jen Pestana, University of Strathclyde, Glasgow
“This year I decided to start a small business that encourages secondary students to get involved with and excited about maths”
Nicholas Maurer, University of Queensland
